This week, we will be learning about the Cainozoic Era. This era lasted from 66 million years ago to 3 million years ago, and is also known as the Age of Mammals. It began with the extinction of the dinosaurs, possibly following a huge meteor or comet that collided with Earth. In the millions of years which followed, Earth became freezing cold. Eventually, it warmed, allowing plants and flowers, and mammals such as the woolly mammoth and blue whale, to flourish. At the end of the Cainozoic era we meet our ancestors, apes, who were beginning to use their back legs to walk upright, and their hands to manipulate sticks and stones. The children will explore this era through a variety of activities available in the indoor and outdoor environment, and help to act out the era during drama.
