During the week the children will be learning about this important festival, celebrated by Hindus from all around the world. The story of Prince Rama and his wife Sita, and how they defeated the demon King Ravana with the help of the Monkey King Hanuman, is remembered during the festival. It is a story which celebrates the victory of light over dark. People decorate their houses, light diva lamps and make beautiful Rangoli patterns, as well as enjoying special food and sweets with family and friends.
The children will be making and decorating their own clay diva lamps and acting out the story of Rama and Sita during the drama. They will also have the chance to create their own Rangoli pattern and design their own henna patterns.
