This week children will be learning about mindfulness and kindness. We will discuss how we show kindness to one another (pushing a chair so no one trips, carrying work carefully so as not to bump into anyone, returning the work tray to its place so others can find it, walking around the rugs so as not to disturb others’ work, offering to tie someone’s shoe, or zipping up a friend’s coat), and to be mindful with our words and actions (silence game, walking on the line, waiting for your turn, and listening while someone is talking). Children will identify other acts of kindness, and will dramatize them. They will write kind notes to friends and family members. They will learn some yoga poses, meditate, and learn breathing exercises.

‘They will imitate us in any case. Let us treat them, therefore, with all the kindness which we would wish to help to develop in them’ (Maria Montessori)

Montessori schooling is a 100-year-old system that naturally incorporates practices that align with mindfulness and kindness.
